Take Back Your Mink Loesser 6. Daddy Troup 2. Love for Sale Porter 4. There is a general theme of mercenary sex in the song selections but Julie treats their lyrics in such a humorous, light-hearted manner that the dirt is washed away.

Sort of like Julie London meets Rosemary Clooney. Although some of Julie's earlier albums had a small Album) or brass section they still remained within tighter bounds.

The first attempt to move her into bigger up-tempo arrangements occurred in her previous LP, the problematic Send For Me discussed above. Here though the arrangements are far better as is the recording and Julie responds with more composed Album) nuanced singing. Her vocals are very lively, well phrased and confident through the entire album. Felix Album) came up with excellent arrangements in one of his later efforts before his premature death in Feb.

He was the lead violinist of the Hollywood String Quartet and a noted Hollywood film conductor and concertmaster for Frank Sinatra. It is a tribute to Julie and the team around her that a 14th album could be such a quality effort. This album certainly disproves the idea that Julie was a one dimensional singer who could only sing with a guitar or jazz trio. The cover is also fine with Julie sitting cloaked in a mink coat and jewels and not much else. Pressing Notes : The sonics are good early solid state.

Vocals and instruments are smooth and clear if a bit dry and harmonically thin. The mono pressing is more coherent than the stereo. While the stereo opens up the sound, there are too many instances of hard panning left or right which distract from the vocals. Julie's voice is also a bit thinner and less present. Then Julie comes in with deft light phrasing on the opening lines. Her voice is a bit processed but only to the extent of making it ultra smooth.

The band is lively but not out of control. On the next song My Heart Belongs to Daddy the arrangement does a very nice job of playing off the walking bass with different sections of the orchestra. Julie shows a sense of humor that she maintains through the album which enlivens the interpretations of Hard Hearted HannahDo It Again. She comically veils her vocal tone on Tired and sounds very convincing when she proclaims "I'm tired of you". Julie reprises one of Bobby Troup's best songs Daddy in a different arrangement and provides a suitable reinterpretation.

An Occasional Man. The only questionable song is Love For Sale. It's done OK but simply is not convincing from Julie and even less so from Ella for that matter.
